The senate rejected the Blunt Amendment with a final vote of 51-48. This bill would have provided protection for people of faith from the administration’s mandate to provide abortifacients (drugs that can cause an abortion) and contraceptives. The majority of the senate took the position that it is more important to provide these drugs and contraceptives free of charge to all women rather than to uphold the religious freedom guaranteed by the 1st Amendment.
